Inspired by the Design Studio Press’ The Skillful Huntsman, the Turandot costume sketches show few examples of visual brainstorming, attempting to figure out an overall silhouette that Turandot should embody: imposing? Intimidating? Feminine? Adrogynous? What kind of statement should she make with her presence? Overall, the goal was to create Turandot and her presence to be so awe-inspiring, shocking and somewhat over-the-top to relate to her attitude, stubborn mind and disregard for the pain she causes to others. As she eventually accepts/understands love, her costume would transform as well into a much simpler and eloquent statement.
